natural fabricsNatural fabrics are fabrics that are produced from naturally occurring fibres. These fibres derive from plant seeds, stems and leaves and even silkworm cocoons.

One of the best known natural fabrics is cotton, the fibres of which grow around the seeds of the cotton plant.

Silk-worms provide the fibre for the strongest natural fabric in the world. Silk is used in a variety of applications and when worn as clothing not only does it look beautiful but it also provides warmth when it is cold and cools you down when it is hot.

Leather is another natural fabric that is derived from the hides of some animals. It is soft and elastic and extremely comfortable to wear. As well as leather jackets and coats, it is used in a variety of other applications such as three-piece suites, belts, purses and wallets to name but a few.

Natural fabrics are also combined with man-made fabrics to produce items of clothing that are easier to wash and iron. That pure cotton shirt may feel very comfortable to the skin, but when it comes to ironing it you’ve got a job on your hands.

It can be readily seen from the above, that although natural fabrics are by far the best when it comes to comfort, having a combination of natural and man-made will result in a product that is the ‘best of both worlds’ - in that it can be luxurious and comfortable, whilst at the same time being easier to maintain and care for.
